Rider at Penn State Relays

STATE COLLEGE, PA—The Broncs competed at the Penn State Relays Saturday, breaking five team records. “Both the men and women performed very well,” said Rider head coach Rob Pasquariello. “There was good competition in a nice facility, and we had a real team effort. We really competed hard.”

For the Rider women, senior Jazmine Fenlator (Wayne/Wayne Valley) placed second in the shot put with a Rider record toss of 47'11” and was third in the 20 pound weight throw (56'3”), qualifying for the ECAC Championships in both events.

For the Rider men, senior David Payne (Neptune) placed second in the 55m dash (6.41) and qualified for the IC4As.

Senior Allyson Angelo (Brick/Red Bank Catholic) placed fourth in the pole vault when she tied the Rider record of 10'6”. “That was pretty phenomenal, since this was her first competition since coming off of knee surgery,” Pasquariello said. “That shows what kind of character that kid has.”

Junior Randy Nixon (Manorville, NY/West Hampton) placed fourth in the 55m hurdles with an IC4A qualifying time of 7.69, sophomore Desmond Hamilton (Pennsauken) placed seventh in the long jump (22'3.75”), sophomore AJ Parillo (South River) was 12th in the long jump (21'5.25”) and senior Doug Beck (Branchburg/Somerville) was ninth in the shot put (49'9.75”) and 13th in the 35 pound weight throw (49'7”).

The men's 4 x 200 relay team of Hamilton, Nixon, Parillo and Payne placed second with a Rider record time of 1:28.30.

Senior Katie O'Connor (Forked River/Lacey Twp.) was fourth in the high jump (5'5”), sophomore Tabatha Haskins (Medford/Shawnee) was sixth in the long jump (16'9.75”) and eighth in the triple jump (36'), sophomore Kelly Kajunski (Glenmore, Pa./Downington East) was sixth in the high jump (5'3”) and senior Danielle Holmes (Hackensack/Holy Angels) was seventh in the triple jump (36'2.75”). We scored in every field event we entered,” said Pasquariello. “That's pretty impressive in a meet like this.”

Freshman Karlise Cureton (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Twp.) was ninth in the 55m hurdles (8.60), sophomore Andrea Campbell (Somers Point/Mainland Regional) placed 11th in the 3,000m (11:20.03), freshman Jessica Tack (Hummelstown, PA/Hershey) placed 12th in the shot put (40'8.75”) and freshman Alicia Price (Voorhees/Eastern) was 13th in the shot put (40'2”).

The Rider shuttle hurdle relay team of Cureton, senior Katie O'Connor (Forked River/Lacey Twp.), Kajunski and Haskins placed third in a Rider record time of 33.53. The Rider 4 x 200 relay team of senior Katie Chin (Jackson/Jackson Memorial), sophomore Tricia Crotty (Lewistown, PA/Indian Valley), Cureton and Kajunski placed fifth in a new Rider record time of 1:47.44. The distance medley relay team of freshman Kelsey Kohler (Southampton, PA/St. Basil's), Chin, sophomore Megan Crowe (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert's) and sophomore Kelly Wojciehowski (Fair Haven/Rumson Fair Haven) placed fifth (12:54.73). The 4x400 relay of Chin, Crotty, Crowe and Cureton was eighth (4:10.37)

Freshman Robert McCullough (Plymouth Meeting, PA/La Salle) was 12th in the 3,000 meters (9:27.18), sophomore Tom Planer (Cranford) was 13th in the high jump (6'1.25”), freshman Kevin Breen (Langhorne, PA/Archbishop Ryan) placed 15th in the pole vault (13'3.5”) and senior Danny Enck (Lititz, PA/Warwick) was 20th in the shot put (45'4.25”) and 22nd in the wt. throw (46').

The mile relay team of sophomore Matt Dahl (West Keansburg/Raritan), junior Jeff Stead (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury), junior Paul Matuszak (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) and junior Ryan Donohue (Freehold Twp.) placed second (17:59.56).

The distance medley relay team of Dahl, sophomore Gary Morris (Clay, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse), Stead and Matuszak placed third (10:30.86). The 4 x 400 relay of Hamilton, Morris, Nixon and Parillo placed fourth (3:20.83)

Rider competes at the New York City Armory in the Albany Great Dane Classic January 19.
