FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Women’s College Basketball
Towson University 76,  Rider University 42

TOWSON, Md.—Despite eight points from junior Janele Henderson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) and seven rebounds from freshman Ashley Anderson (East Orange), the Broncs lost a non-conference game at Towson Friday night.  “Until we get better in practice, we are not going to get better in the games,” said head coach Tori Harrison.

Up 10-3 with 17:58 left in the first half, Towson (9-1) went on a 19-5 run, four points each by Alis Freeman and Shanae Baker-Brice to lead 29-8 with 8:57 left in the opening period and the Tigers led 45-19 at the half.  Baker-Brice led the Tigers with 16 points, with Freeman adding nine points and five assists.

For Rider (0-10), sophomore Danielle Costantino (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) and sophomore Shaunice Parker (Waldorf, Md./West Lake) each had seven points with senior Kara Borel (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) adding six rebounds.

Towson, which entered the week ranked seventh in the nation in steals, had a season-high 22 in the game, including 14 in the first half with the Broncs committing a season-high 35 turnovers on the night.

“We should have handled the defensive pressure better,” said Henderson.  “We have to come out and work harder and play with more energy.”

Rider is off for a week before playing in the Wagner Christmas Classic December 29-30.

“The break will give us a chance to refocus,” Harrison added.  “We will reenergize and reorganize and we will hopefully start playing like we want to be here.  If you are a ball player, it doesn’t matter what time of year it is, you have to want to play and we need to play with that intensity and that energy and we aren’t right now.”

“The second half, we picked each other up better,” Henderson added.  “We caused 20 turnovers but we can’t commit 35 and expect to win.  We held Towson down in the second half but it’s about a 40 minute effort and we didn’t come out with the energy that we should have.”
