Rider at Fordham’s Christmas/Princeton’s New Year’s Invitationals
Payne, Fenlator Break Rider Records
BRONX, NY/PRINCETON—The Broncs began the indoor season with half of the team in the Bronx, at the Christmas Invitational at Fordham, and the rest at Princeton at the New Year’s Invitational. “This was a really good start to the indoor season,” said Rider head coach Rob Pasquariello.
For the men at Princeton, senior David Payne (Neptune) broke the Rider record in the 60m dash with a winning time of 6.81, and broke the Rider record in the 300m with a winning time of 34.88. Both times qualified for the IC4A Championships. “David’s running really well right now,” said Pasquariello.
For the women at Princeton, senior Jazmine Fenlator (Wayne/Wayne Valley) broke the Rider record in both the wt. throw (57’11.75”) and the shot put (47’8”), both distances qualifying for the ECAC Championships. “Jazmine had another phenomenal meet,” Pasquariello said. “This was a tough meet, with great competition, but we came ready to go.”
For the Rider men at Fordham sophomore Tom Planer (Cranford) won the high jump (6’3.5”) and junior Paul Matuszak (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) won the 5,000m (15:34.7).
For the Rider women at Fordham, sophomore Megan Crowe (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert’s) placed second in the 1,000 meters (3:16.2), freshman Alicia Price (Voorhees/Eastern) placed third in the shot put (37’9.25”) and sophomore Kelly Wojciehowski (Fair Haven/Rumson Fair Haven) was third in the 5,000m (19:03.6).
“I thought things at Fordham went great,” said assistant coach Bob Hamer. “We have some of the young kids here and for several of them it was their first collegiate competition. They stood up to the task of what it’s like to compete at this level, and hopefully they gained some confidence.”
Freshman Paul Racioppi (Old Bridge) placed third in the 400m (53.3) and fifth in the 200m (24.0), while sophomore Elizabeth Spokony (Woodstown) was fourth n the long jump (17”) and seventh n the triple jump (33’6.5”). Senior Danielle Holmes (Hackensack/Holy Angels) was fourth in the triple jump (35’7.75”).
