Rider at U.S. Open
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.—Rider University’s swimming team competed Thursday on day one at the U.S. Open Swimming Championships, hosted by Purdue University.
Senior Brandon Modrov (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge), the 2006 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Year placed 68th in the preliminaries of the 200 meter IM with a time of 2:25.78.
World record holder Michael Phelps placed second in the event.
The men’s 200 meter free relay of Modrov, senior Andy French (Richfield, Minn./Richfield Senior), junior Peter Starr (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area Senior) and freshman Scott Player (Chino Hills, Calif./Ruben S. Ayala) finished 26th in the preliminaries with a time of 8:26.14.
Competition continues through Saturday.
