Rider at Bucknell Invitational – Day One
Men 5th of 5
LEWISBURG, Pa.—The Rider men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are competing at the Bucknell Invitational this weekend with the women fourth of five teams and the men fifth of five teams after day one of competition on Saturday.
For the women’s team, freshman Kellyanne Tomasula (Sussex, N.J./Vernon Township) won the 100 back (57.97) with senior Shannen Kahler (Ojai, Calif./Chaparral/Grossmont CC) winning the one-meter dive (231.55). Sophomore Priscilla Modrov (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) won the 200 IM (2:07.86) with senior Lauren Urbanski (Lansdowne, Pa./Upper Darby) winning the 200 butterfly (2:04.31).
“We swam well on the first day,” said head coach Steve Fletcher. “Lauren Urbanski set a pool record for the Kinney Natatorium in the 200 butterfly and that time also qualified her for the U.S. Open meet out at Purdue at the end of November so she had a big day.”
For the men’s team, junior Dylan Korn (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake) won the one-meter dive (272.85), junior Peter Starr (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area Senior) won the 100 back (52.75) with senior Andy French (Richfield, Minn./Richfield Senior) winning the 1650 free (16:20.60).
“Some of our freshmen on the men’s team are starting to race better and smarter,” Fletcher added. “This was a break through performance overall after having some difficult meets to start the season.”
The women’s 400 medley relay of Tomasula, Urbanski, Modrov and junior Stephanie Cosentino (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) won with a time of 3:57.50.
The women’s 200 free relay of Tomasula, Cosentino, Urbanski and Modrov finished second with a time of 1:38.66.
The men’s 200 free relay of freshman Scott Player (Chino Hills, Calif./Ruben S. Ayala), freshman Brian Brady (Turnersville, N.J./Gloucester Catholic), Starr and senior Brandon Modrov (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) finished second with a time of 1:26.45.
Competition concludes on Sunday.
