JERSEY CITY—The Broncs lost a four-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match at Saint Peter’s Saturday afternoon.
Saint Peter’s won 30-18, 30-25, 19-30, 30-18.
“We lost in four games,” said head coach Emily Ahlquist. “But we played better than we did last night at Fairfield. No one player stood out, we played well in spurts. And we need to play a more complete match if we are going to finish the season strong and have a chance at the MAAC tournament in two weeks.”
“We are fine with the physical play,” said freshman Amy Jeary (Depew, N.Y./St. Mary’s) who led the Broncs with a 15-dig effort. “It is the mental aspect of our effort that has to be better. We need to be more ready to play.”
“It was nice to see a better effort but we just have to put it all together,” Ahlquist added. “Today was a step in the right direction. We had better enthusiasm and I saw some positive signs, we just need a more complete effort, from the first point to the last point, and not sometimes, all the time.”
Rider senior Megan Smith (Webster, N.Y./Webster) had 15 kills with sophomore Lacey Johnson (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) adding 10 kills and nine digs. Freshman JoAnna Winter (Hamburg, Minn./Mayer Lutheran) had 35 assists.
Rider (7-18, 5-11 MAAC) has lost seven straight and hosts Loyola on Thursday before completing the regular season hosting Iona on November 11. “Every team is facing the same sense of urgency,” Ahlquist said. “Everyone wants to be playing their best heading into the conference tournament.”
All 10 teams head to Orlando, Florida November 15-19 to complete in the post-season tournament with the winner advancing to the NCAA Championship tournament.
