LAWRENCEVILLE—On Senior Day, the Broncs ended the 2006 season with a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win over Manhattan Sunday on the play of three seniors. “This was a great way to end the season,’ said Rider head coach Russ Fager. “The guys did well for themselves, they played well, and that is what we were after.”
Senior Adam Bailey (Southampton, PA/Archbishop Wood) compiled two assists for the Broncs (5-10-4, 2-5-2) in his final collegiate game. “The fact that Bailey had a couple of assists on Senior Day was great,” said Fager.
“It was a little emotional today,” said Bailey. “In my four years here it seems we always step up on Senior Day and we did again today. Everybody seemed to step up for us today. The season and my career ended on a good note. Two wins in the last two games, that’s the only way to go out.”
Senior Tim Jones (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) took a pass from Bailey and scored just 2:03 into the second half. “I was able to get down the line and cross it and it looked like Jones was wide open and he buried it in the far post,” Bailey said.
“My goal was all Bailey,” Jones said. “He beat two guys and passed it to me. It was a great way to end by career here. All of the seniors as well as the underclassmen played well together. It was a good combined effort.”
Freshman Kevin Juska (Wall) took a pass from Bailey and scored his first collegiate goal for a 2-0 lead with 16:49 left in the game. “I was very happy to see Kevin get his first goal,” said Fager. “It was a through ball and I was a step ahead of the defender and Kevin was a step ahead of the goalie,” said Bailey.
Rider out-shot Manhattan (3-16, 1-8 MAAC) 13-9.
Rider senior goalkeeper Dan Riverso (Williamstown) made two saves for his 10th career shutout. “The shutout for Dan was great,” said Fager.
John Ciano also made two saves in the Manhattan net.
“It was a good way to end it,” said Jones.
