Thompson Honored

NEW YORK, NY—The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference held its annual Basketball Media Day Tuesday and Rider University junior Jason Thompson (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) was named to the Preseason First Team All-MAAC.

“There is not a player in the MAAC I would trade Jason for,” Rider head coach Tommy Dempsey said at the luncheon, held at Madison Square Garden.

The Rider men’s team was picked to finish seventh in the 10-team league.  Marist was the unanimous choice to win the MAAC in 2007.

The Rider women were picked to finish tenth. Iona was picked to win the MAAC women’s title.

Thompson was a Second Team All-MAAC selection last year after being named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team as a freshman.  Thompson was also a CollegeInsider.com Freshman All-American in 2005.

Last season Thompson ranked second in the MAAC in blocks, fourth in rebounding, sixth in field goal percentage and seventh in scoring.

Rider begins the preseason Saturday, November 11 with an exhibition game against Wilkes College.

The 2006-2007 season begins November 12 with the women hosting Rice in Alumni Gym.  The men’s season begins November 14 at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
