FAIRFIELD, CT—The Broncs took on the 15th ranked team in the country and played right with Fairfield before losing Sunday in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game. “We sure had our chances, no question about it,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager. “Our guys played about as good a game as they’ve played this year.”
The Stags (11-4-1, 6-1 MAAC) scored the only goal of the contest in the 11th minute of the game. “They sent the ball inside, Christian (Uy) ran past our defender and tucked the ball away,” said Fager. “It was not a hard shot to make. He was pretty much wide open from about eight yards out. That was probably the only good scoring opportunity they had all day.”
Fairfield out-shot Rider (3-10-4, 0-5-2 MAAC) 13-10. “We had about seven good chances but none of them found the back of the net,” said Fager. “That pretty much has been the trend to what we are doing.”
Rider senior goalkeeper Dan Riverso (Williamstown) made five saves, while Jon Paul Francini made five saves for the Stags.
“We played well on Friday and we played much better today against a very good team,” Fager said. “I personally thing we out-played them from about the 22nd minute on. No one for us had a bad game.”
Rider hosts Saint Peter’s Friday.
