LAWRENCEVILLE—The Broncs played a scoreless tie with Siena Sunday in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game. “We came out and played harder, but once again we got some quality chances and didn’t capitalize,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager.

Rider (3-8-4, 0-3-2 MAAC) out-shot Siena (2-11-2, 1-4-1 NEC) 23-21. The Broncs had seven corners, while Siena had 11. “We had a much better effort all over the field then we have had,” said Fager.

Rider senior goalkeeper Dan Riverso (Williamstown) made five saves. “Dan is still the best conference keeper,” said Fager. “He makes big saves when he has to. He made a big save late in the game and another in overtime. He stays focused no matter what is happening around him, good or bad, and he’s been the leader for us.”

“This was a big turnaround from what happened to us on Friday (3-2 loss to Marist),” said Riverso. “Today is not a win but not a loss. We’ll build of off this.”

Patrick Henry made nine saves in the nets for the Saints.

In the first overtime period, senior back Jacob Kratt (Moorestown) came in off the bench and made two stellar blocks on shots that were heading toward the Rider net. “I was just trying to get anything I could on the ball, stop it from going in,” said Kratt. “I knew a goal at that time would have meant a loss, and a loss would have taken us out of the conference race.”

Kratt played several games in goal for Eastern University before coming to Rider, where he has played strictly in the back.

“Jacob did a great job coming in off the bench,” said Fager. “Jac has a heart the size of the field. He’s the kind of guy that in a game like this when you need something, he’s going to be the guy who gets it done.”

“I thought we played well and improved a lot from our effort on Friday,” said Kratt. “If we could have finished a couple chances we would have come away with a win.”

The overtime game was Rider’s fifth of the season. “I like to play, so I don’t mind,” said Riverso. “This is my last year so I’m milking as much playing time out of it as I can.”

The Broncs travel to Iona for a MAAC game Friday.
