Rider to Host Soccer Alumni Day
Doubleheader with Loyola
LAWRENCEVILLE—The final day of September will be Soccer Alumni Day at Rider University, as the Broncs host Loyola College in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s and women’s doubleheader. “This could be a great day for both Rider teams,” said Rider women’s soccer coach Kevin Long.
The Rider women will host Loyola at 12 noon on Saturday, September 30, and the Rider men will host the Greyhounds at 2:30 pm.
“With this being a very big day in college soccer, as both our men’s and women’s teams host Loyola, we’re looking for a big turnout from our alumni, students, faculty and community to help support the teams,” said Rider men’s head coach Russ Fager.
Beginning at halftime of the men’s game and extending past the conclusion of play, there will be a cookout for all Rider Soccer alums, Rider players and players’ parents. “It should be a nice social gathering for the past and current players and their families,” said Fager.
“What a great opportunity for us,” said Long. “To have our first MAAC game of the season against a team that is one of the top teams in the league every year, and to have our alums and fans there to support us. There will be a lot of motivation, playing in front of the former players who had success here.”
The Rider men moved up to a ranking of sixth in the North Atlantic Region, having defeated Duquesne and tying San Diego State.
The Loyola men have won five MAAC regular season titles in the last six years, and the Loyola women went 9-0 in MAAC play last season.
The Rider women are 1-0-1 in their last two games. “This should be a heated day,” said Long, “and we’re very excited to get a lot of fans here to experience it.”
