Matlack & Mike Juska All-Tournament
LEWISBURG, PA—The Broncs lost to the host Bison in the championship game of the Geisinger/Days Inn Bucknell Invitational Saturday night. “The score did not indicate how well we played,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager. “We played extremely well. We put two very strong games together this weekend and I am very pleased with the weekend we had. The competition was very good.”
Senior Dylan Matlack (Geigertown, Pa./Twin Valley) scored his second goal of the tournament to give Rider (3-2-1) a 1-0 lead just 2:59 into the game. “Dylan had a very strong game, he played very well,” said Fager. Matlack and sophomore Mike Juska (Wall, N.J./Wall) were named to the all-tournament team. Juksa had an assist and scored the game-winning goal in overtime as Rider defeated Duquesne 4-3 Friday night.
Bucknell (4-1-1) scored three unanswered goals in the second half for the victory. “They capitalized on the few mistakes we made,” said Fager.
Bucknell out-shot Rider 11-8. Rider senior goalkeeper Dan Riverso (Williamstown) made one save.
“They took advantage of their chances and we didn’t,” said sophomore defender Colin Jennings (Wall), a transfer from Elizabethtown who earned All-State honors as a senior, helping Wall win the Group III State Championship.
“Colin has been anchoring the defense for us this year and is doing a great job,” said Fager. “He’s big, strong and fast.”
“I had a few offers out of high school and I though Elizabethtown was where I could grow and prosper,” said Jennings. “Things didn’t work out and I heard everyone was having fun playing at Rider.”
Rider travels to Southern California next weekend to take on San Diego State Friday and San Diego Sunday. That should be fun.
