Senior Jazmine Fenlator of the track & field team, junior Don Fisch of the wrestling team, and junior Jason Thompson of the basketball team have been named the winners of the Clair Bee Trophy as Rider University Athletes of the Year for 2006-07.

Rider University junior Don Fisch (Williamstown, N.J./Delsea) placed fifth in the nation in the 141 pound weight class Saturday morning at the 2007 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in the Palace of Auburn Hills. “Donnie had a wonderful tournament and I’m very proud of him. He became a real fan favorite here after last night and the entire arena was pulling for him today,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor.  As a team, Rider placed 30th overall.

Rider University junior 141 Don Fisch (Williamstown, N.J./Delsea) won his first three matches over the fifth, 12th and fourth seeds to earn All-America honors at the 2007 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in the Palace of Auburn Hills. “I’m very pleased with the way Donnie wrestled,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor.

Rider University junior 141 Don Fisch (Williamstown, N.J./Delsea) won his first two matches Thursday to reach the quarterfinals at the 2007 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in the Palace of Auburn Hills. “Obviously I’m very pleased with the way Donnie is wrestling,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor, “beating two seeded wrestlers.”

March 7, 2007 - Rider Sending Six to Nationals

Six Rider University wrestlers will travel to the Palace of Auburn Hills in Michigan to take part in the 77th NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships March 15-17.

T. J. Morrison, a junior on the Rider University wrestling team, is heading to Auburn Hills, Michigan for the NCAA National Wrestling Championships, it was announced today.

March 3, 2007 - 3rd of 11 at CAA's / Five Advance to Nationals

The Rider wrestling team placed third of 11 teams at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships this weekend and will send five wrestlers to the 2007 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at The Palace in Auburn Hills, Michigan.  “I am pleased with how we wrestled,” said head coach Gary Taylor.  “We wrestled a tough schedule all year and it paid off in many of these matches.”

In omnia paratus.  Latin for ‘in all things prepared’ and the motto for Rider University.  It is also the motto for the Bronc wrestling team competing at the 2007 Colonial Athletic Association Championships this weekend, hosted by George Mason.  “I’m pleased with the overall performance today,” said head coach Gary Taylor.  “Obviously there is a lot of wrestling to go tomorrow but I am happy with where we stand.”

Mike Kessler of the Rider University wrestling team was named the Colonial Athletic Association Wrestler of the Week for all competition February 13-19.

On Senior Day, senior Nate Galloway (State College, PA) won his final match in Alumni Gymnasium. It just so happened to be his first-ever match in front of the Rider crowd.

The Broncs won nine of 10 bouts to defeat Boston University in a Colonial Athletic Association dual meet Friday night. Four of the Rider winners were freshmen.  “I like to see that,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor.  “The freshmen win and get encouraged. That hasn’t happened that many times this year that almost all of the freshmen in the line up all won.”

Fresh off a dual meet at third ranked Iowa State, the Broncs took on eighth ranked Hofstra Tuesday night in a Colonial Athletic Association dual meet on Long Island. “I thought our kids wrestled hard and were very impressive,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor, “and I was pleased with that. Hofstra very much knew they were in some tough matches.”

The Broncs took on the third ranked team in the nation Friday night, falling in a non-conference dual.  “We got an opportunity to wrestle the very best in the nation,” said head coach Gary Taylor.  “They may be as good as anybody in the nation right now.”

The Broncs won eight matches and defeated Clarion in a non-conference dual on Saturday afternoon.  “Anytime you get off to a good start and get a win under your belt on the road, especially in front of a large crowd, it gives you a good shot of confidence,” said head coach Gary Taylor.

The Broncs won six bouts to defeat Rutgers Wednesday night. “I was pleased overall,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor.  “We’re a little banged up right now, so to get through this match and get a win over a team that just beat Boston U. pretty solid was good.”

The Broncs split their two Colonial Athletic Association dual meets Saturday to go 3-1 at the CAA Duals, hosted by George Mason. “We’re coming home with a 3-1 record in the tournament,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor.  “We wanted to get all four, but Old Dominion just wrestled a little better than us today.”

The Broncs defeated Colonial Athletic Association rivals George Mason and James Madison on the first day of the two-day CAA Duals, hosted by Mason.  In the two matches Friday evening Rider won 14 of the 20 bouts. “We got banged up a little today, but we did fine,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor.  “But we won two matches, so that’s the good news.”

The Broncs placed sixth of 16 teams at the Virginia Duals this weekend, losing twice on Saturday. “We had a good day on Friday and a tough day on Saturday,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor. “This will make us tougher.”

The Broncs won their first two matches at the 16-team Virginia Duals, held at the Hampton Coliseum Friday, defeating VMI and Arizona State.  “It was important that we had a strong start today,” said head coach Gary Taylor.  “Winning both duals today puts us in the semi-finals.”

The Broncs won five of 10 bouts but lost to Drexel in a Colonial Athletic Association dual meet Tuesday.  It was just the eighth time in 31 meetings that Drexel beat Rider, and the first time since the 2002-2003 season. “I knew Drexel could beat us,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor. “I didn’t think they would, but they out-wrestled us tonight.”

The Broncs won five bouts, including two pins and two major decisions, in a come-from-behind win over Bloomsburg Friday night. “That was a good win for us, one that we needed,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor. “We wrestled hard to get what we needed to get.”

December 30, 2006 - 13th of 50 at Midlands

The Broncs placed 13th of 50 teams at the 44th Midlands Wrestling Championships, hosted by Northwestern University. “This is exactly like Nationals, and that’s why we came here,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor. “This was a good showing. We never placed this high at this tournament.”

The Broncs are competing against the finest collegiate and amateur wrestlers in the nation this weekend at the 44th Midlands Wrestling Championships, hosted by Northwestern University, with three wrestlers still alive going into Saturday.  “Overall it was a good day,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor.  “This is a very tough tournament and we’ve competed pretty well.”

December 9, 2006 - Maryland 25 Rider 16

The Broncs won four bouts and lost a non-conference dual to the University of Maryland Saturday afternoon before over 800 fans in Alumni Gym.  “I think Maryland out wrestled us today,” said head coach Gary Taylor.  “Their coaches did a nice job preparing them for the match.”

December 2, 2006 - 18th of 47 at Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational

The Broncs finished 18th of 47 teams, with a pair of place winners at the 25th Annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational, where 12 of the top 25 teams in the nation were competing. “Obviously this is a very tough tournament, with some of the best wrestlers in the country,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor. “There are a whole lot of good schools out here who don’t have any place winners, let alone two, so that’s the good news.”
December 1, 2006 - at Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational

The Broncs are competing at the 25th Annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational, where 12 of the top 25 teams in the nation are included in the 47-team field and are in 21st place after day one of competition.  “As tough as this tournament is, our team is having a good showing,” said head coach Gary Taylor.
November 19, 2006 - 3rd at Keystone Classic

With two champions, a runner-up, a third place finisher and a fourth place finisher, the Broncs placed third of 10 teams at the Keystone Classic, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania Sunday. “We could have done better, but we also could have done worse,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor. “We didn’t have our best overall performance, and that is what it would have taken to defeat quality teams like Columbia and Penn.”

Not yet the mecca of collegiate wrestling but headed in that direction.  Before a crowd estimated at 1,200 strong, the Broncs took the number 25 ranked team in the nation to the limit before falling on Tuesday night in Alumni Gym.

The family that wrestles together, pins together, and wins together. The Broncs won six bouts, two by fall by the Morrison brothers, to upset 21st ranked Lehigh in the 2006-07 season opener Friday night in a sold out Alumni Gymnasium. “Lehigh is a great team with great tradition,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor. “They’ve been one of the premier teams for many years.”

October 19, 2006 - 10 Broncs Ranked in CAA / 2 on All-Freshman Team

The Rider University wrestling team has a wrestler ranked in each of the ten weight classes in the Colonial Athletic Association, and two Broncs are on the CAA All-Freshman Team to start the 2006-07 season.

Five members of the Rider University wrestling team will begin the 2006-2007 season ranked among the top 20 wrestlers in the nation in their respective weight classes.

September 24, 2006 - Former Rider Coach in National Hall of Fame

The founder of varsity wrestling at Rider University, Barry Burtnett, was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, New Jersey Chapter on Sunday, September 24. “I am very grateful and deeply honored to receive this prestigious award,” said Burtnett.

June 23, 2006 - Rider Recruiting Class Nationally Ranked

The Rider University wrestling team's incoming class for the 2006-2007 season has been ranked among the top 25 in the nation, according to WIN Magazine.  This marks the fourth time in the last five years that Rider has had a nationally ranked incoming class. "We are very excited about our incoming class,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor, who has compiled 319 career victories at Rider and has produced 11 All-Americans.  “They are a talented and motivated group.  By receiving a Top 25 ranking, the rest of the nation also recognizes the ability of these young men.”
