Rider Hires Baggett as Assistant Coach
LAWRENCEVILLE—Kevin Baggett has been hired as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Rider University, Rider head coach Tommy Dempsey announced. Baggett joined the Rider staff after an opening was created when Fred Dupree left to become an assistant coach at the College of Charleston.
Baggett has been a Division I assistant coach for the last 10 years, and comes to Rider from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, where he served as assistant coach in 2005-06.
“Kevin comes to us with a wealth of experience in college basketball,” said Dempsey, who begins his fourth season at Rider, second as head coach. “Kevin has a great track record as a coach and a recruiter and we are very fortunate that he decided to join our coaching staff at Rider. He has a thorough understanding of what it takes to be successful at this level.”
Baggett has also served at James Madison, Howard, Western Kentucky and Coastal Carolina.
The former St. Joseph’s University player and standout performer at the scholastic level in New Jersey hails from Burlington, and has coached at Cinnaminson High School. He was a member of the Hawks' 1985-86 team that compiled a 26-6 record and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He received his Bachelor degree in marketing with a minor in sociology from St. Joseph's in June 1989.
“I am excited to be back at home here in New Jersey,” said Baggett, “and having an opportunity to work with Tommy and his staff here at Rider University. I am looking forward to wonderful times to come in the near future under Tommy’s tutelage.”
Baggett joins assistant coaches Dane Fischer and Mike Witcoskie on the Rider staff.
Rider will play a scrimmage November 11 against the University of Scranton in Alumni Gymnasium, and the season begins at New Jersey Institute of Technology November 14.
