Bronc junior Tyler Brewington shot an 82 but was able to hold on for third place out of 45 golfers on Sunday at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Golf Championships in Florida. Overall, Rider placed fifth with a score of 921 after spending the last two days in second place, two shots off the lead. “Everyone looked a little nervous when we started and it kind of went from there,” said head coach Bob Whartenby. |

The Broncs won the seven-team Peacock Invitational hosted by Saint Peter’s College on Tuesday afternoon shooting a 311 with junior Tyler Brewington (Orangeville, Pa./Benton) winning the individual tournament title with a one under par 71 on the par 72 Neshanic Valley Golf Course. “Today was a huge help momentum wise heading into the conference championships,” said head coach Bob Whartenby. |

Rider placed 12th with a 938 and Bronc junior Tyler Brewington finished 15th overall out of 87 golfers on the final day of the Mount St. Mary’s Spring Invitational held at the par 72 Quail Valley Golf Course Saturday. “I was much more pleased with how we played today,” said head coach Bob Whartenby. “We kept our composure and kept the rounds together.” |

The Broncs are competing at the Mount St. Mary’s Spring Invitational this weekend and shot a 317 and 310 for a 627 total in the first two rounds on Friday. Rider is currently 12th of 17 teams after the first day of action. “I’m frustrated,” said head coach Bob Whartenby. “We were on pace for both rounds to be under 300 and lost our mental focus on the last few holes.” |

After battling through 20 mile per hour winds and freezing temperatures that made the wind chill a balmy eight degrees, there wasn’t much more that mother nature could throw at the 130 golfers in the Navy Invitational. Except maybe a few snow balls. “It was a bizarre weekend of weather,” said head coach Bob Whartenby. “I’m not sure how else to describe it.” |

Neither wind nor bitter cold shall keep a golfer from his appointed rounds. “The weather was horrible,” said head coach Bob Whartenby after the opening round of the 2007 Navy ‘Spring’ Invitational. “We had the first tee time of the day at 7:30am and it was 30 degrees with a 20 mile per hour wind so it was more like 10 out. It was just cold right off the jump.” |

The Broncs competed at the third annual Lonnie Barton Memorial tournament Monday and Tuesday. Rider shot a 325 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 662 after a 337 on Monday to place 11th. |

The Broncs began their spring season at the third annual Lonnie Barton Memorial tournament Monday. After the first day of the two-day, 36-hole event, the Broncs are in 11th place with a 337. “I think some of the guys knocked a bit of the rust off in our first competitive round of the season,” said acting coach Brian Keane. |

One athlete carried the team on her back, and the other has recovered nicely from a broken back. Krysta Bearish of the field hockey team, and Tyler Brewington of the golf team, were named the Rider University Athletes of the Month for the month of September. |

For the second time in three years, the Rider Broncs held on to win the 54-hole Cornell Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday on the par 72 Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University. “To win this tournament twice in a three-year span is quite an accomplishment,” said Rider head coach Bob Whartenby. |

Junior Tyler Brewington (Orangeville, PA/Benton) shot a 66 on Monday to set a new Rider 36-hole record with a score of 137, leading Rider to a third place finish at the 15-team Leo Keenan Invitational, hosted by St. Bonaventure. “I’m extremely happy with the way we played this weekend, but Tyler broke my record, and I’m not real happy about that,” said Rider head coach Bob Whartenby. |

Patience is a virtue, especially when you are trying to golf in the wind. “It was really windy today, maybe 30, 35 miles per hour,” said Rider head coach Bob Whartenby. “You have to be patient in these conditions. The wind will mess with your swing, and mess with your mind.” |

The Broncs led from start to finish, winning the 54-hole Bucknell Invitational for the program’s third title in the last three years. “We did great, winning the tournament by 16 strokes,” said first-year head coach Bob Whartenby. “I’m very proud of the guys. They really stuck together and played great golf all weekend.” |

Rider junior Tyler Brewington (Orangeville, Pa./Benton) suffered a fractured vertebra in a car accident less than a month ago, and on Friday shot his best round of golf in a year to lead the Broncs to first place at the Bucknell Invitational. |
