Rider Honored for Academics

LAWRENCEVILLE—The Rider University women’s volleyball team was one of 54 NCAA Division I teams to receive the Game Plan/American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award, it was announced this week.

The Rider volleyball team compiled a 3.62 team grade point average last semester, the highest semester GPA ever recorded by a varsity team at Rider, and a 3.42 GPA for the 2005-06 academic school year.

The Game Plan/AVCA Team Academic Award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors college and high school teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

“This past year the team’s grades reflect that the student-athletes are students first,” said Rider head volleyball coach Emily Ahlquist. “We strive to do our best in the classroom and in the gym, and we surpassed our classroom goals this year through hard work.  I am very proud of what the student-athletes have done the past year, in and out of the classroom."

All 10 Rider volleyball players compiled a GPA of 3.00 or better last semester.
