    June 19, 2007 - Rider Wins NACMA Award

    The Rider University Athletics Department recently won a bronze medal at the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) convention in Orlando, Florida. Rider won the award for the basketball season ticket brochure design category as part of the 16th annual convention.

    March 27, 2007 - Harrison Does Not Seek Reappointment as Head WBB Coach at Rider University

    Tori Harrison, Rider University’s Head Coach for Women’s Basketball, has chosen not to seek reappointment effective April 1.  “We wish Tori well in her future endeavors,” said Don Harnum, Rider’s Director of Athletics.

    Rider sophomore Danielle Costantino of the women’s basketball team was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic team it was announced by the league office Thursday night.

    The Rider University women’s basketball season came to an end Thursday with a first round loss to Saint Peter’s at the 2007 Bank of America Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship tournament.  "We didn't play very well today," said assistant coach Brian Johnson.  "The positive is that with mostly freshmen and sophomores on the roster, they now have a solid year under their belt and that's going to make us better as a unit going into next season."

    The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game against Iona Sunday afternoon.  “This was the kind of game that you just toss the tape out the window and move on to the next game,” said head coach Tori Harrison.

    The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Manhattan Friday night.  "We were down by a lot early and I went in the locker room and challenged them at the half," said head coach Tori Harrison.  "I wanted to know who wanted to play and battle the final 20 minutes."

    The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Marist Monday night. Marist (22-5, 15-1 MAAC) clinched the MAAC regular season title with the victory.  "Even though Marist had a good game, what occurred in the game was more of what we didn't do than what Marist was able to do," said head coach Tori Harrison.

    The trainer got seven healthy enough to be in uniform and the Broncs took care of the rest.  Junior Janele Henderson (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Loughlin) scored 18 points to lead Rider to a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory over Siena Saturday afternoon. “This was the first game that we competed and held our poise for a complete 40 minutes,” said head coach Tori Harrison.

    The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Loyola Sunday afternoon.  “We didn’t take care of the ball and that’s been the problem all year,” said head coach Tori Harrison.

    February 9, 2007 - Niagara 66 Rider 60

    In a game that featured five ties and seven lead changes, Niagara held on and defeated Rider 66-60 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game Friday.  “We feel that this was a missed opportunity,” said head coach Tori Harrison.  “We battled and led at the half, score on our first four possessions in the second half and then turned it over seven times in a row.”

    February 9, 2007 - MAAC Fights Back Against Breast Cancer Awareness Day at Rider University

    As part of Rider University’s observance of the annual MAAC Fights Back campaign, the men’s and women’s basketball games on Friday, February 9 at 5:30pm and 8pm will be dedicated to the cause.

    The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game to Fairfield Sunday afternoon.  “We ran the offense and got a lot of open looks and then didn’t finish and I think that shows a lack of focus,” said head coach Tori Harrison.

    It's not a fish story but it will be known as the one that got away.   The Broncs took the conference preseason favorites to the limit before falling to Iona in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game Friday night.  "I thought it was our best effort of the season," said head coach  Tori Harrison.  "We really competed the whole game."

    Women's Basketball - Book Drive Extended to March 9

    The Rider Women’s Basketball team is currently sponsoring a Children’s Book Drive.  Team members and staff will be collecting new and gently used books featuring African American authors or titles in honor of Black History month – however, any children’s book will be gladly accepted.  The drive has been extended until March 9, 2007.

    Rider lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Siena Monday night.  “Teams are just annihilating us,” said head coach Tori Harrison.  “We’re young and the other teams are comprised of mostly juniors and seniors but our kids have to understand that eventually they have to want to compete and we’re not doing that.”

    The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game against Saint Peter’s Saturday afternoon at Sovereign Bank Arena. "We had the opportunity to win the game today," said head coach Tori Harrison. "And with the team not doing the little things, rebounding, going through screens and boxing out, those were the reasons we didn’t come out on top."

    The Jaspers ended a nine-game losing streak with a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory at Rider Friday.  “It’s confusing to me that we can come out with such fire and energy in the second half and come out so flat and uninspired to open the game,” said head coach Tori Harrison.

    The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Canisius on Sunday.  “Canisius shot the lights out today, especially from three-point range” said head coach Tori Harrison.  “When a team shoots with that high of a percentage, there isn’t much that you are going to be able to do, especially with a depleted lineup.”

    The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Niagara Friday night.  “We are not putting a 40 minute effort on the floor,” said head coach Tori Harrison.  “We are going to continue to search for the answer and battle through.”

    Despite a career-high 23 points and six rebounds by junior Kelli Sawyer (Philadelphia, PA/Friends Select), the Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game to first-place Marist Monday.  “Marist is a good team,” said head coach Tori Harrison.  “We were playing without a lot of players who were hurt but we were able to do some good things as well.”

    The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game to Canisius Saturday afternoon.  “We did not get off to a good start,” said head coach Tori Harrison.  “The 17 offensive rebounds jumps right off the stat sheet and we have to rebound the ball better to be successful in the MAAC.”

    The Broncs gave a valiant effort against the defending Patriot League champions before Army used a late run to defeat Rider 65-54 on Wednesday night in the final non-conference game of the season.  "I hate to lose," said head coach Tori Harrison.  "I thought we fought and battled and we need to use what we learned tonight going into the conference schedule."

    The Broncs lost the championship game of the Wagner Christmas Classic to St. Bonaventure on Saturday night in New York.  “Tonight I thought we fought hard and battled,” said head coach Tori Harrison.  “We gained some much needed confidence this weekend.”

    It wasn’t much to ask for, just bring them one win. The Broncs had to wait until four days after the holiday but it was worth it, breaking a 14-game losing streak with a win at Wagner Friday night. "It was a great team effort," said head coach Tori Harrison. "It finally looked like the team said we aren’t going to lose this game."

    Despite eight points from junior Janele Henderson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) and seven rebounds from freshman Ashley Anderson (East Orange), the Broncs lost a non-conference game at Towson Friday night.  “Until we get better in practice, we are not going to get better in the games,” said head coach Tori Harrison.

    Looking to retrieve its first win of the season, Rider fell just short, falling to the Retrievers of UMBC Tuesday night in a non-conference game.  “You have to focus and play strong defense every time,” said assistant coach Brian Johnson.  “We didn’t do that and it cost us tonight.”

    Trying to catch a Tiger by the tail.  The Broncs took on the Princeton Tigers on Tuesday looking for their first win of the season.  Despite clawing back into the game and winning the second half by a point, Rider fell to the Tigers 74-45.  “It looks bleak but it’s not as dismal as people are making it out to be,” said head coach Tori Harrison.  “We are working hard for a half and we need to do the little things for 40 minutes.”

    The Broncs lost a non-conference game against the Explorers Saturday.  “It was a tale of two games,” said head coach Tori Harrison.  “We battled in the first five minutes of the first half and the last ten minutes of the game.  We have to battle for a full 40 minutes.”

    The Broncs lost at Hofstra Sunday afternoon.  “We started well, better than we have in the first three games,” said head coach Tori Harrison.  “We then hit a 16 point lull and against a good team like Hofstra, you can’t do that.”

    Rider Athletics Helping Feed the Hungry During Thanksgiving

    As part of the MAAC Gives Back and The Rider Athletics Partners in a Caring Community Program, Rider Athletics and eight of the varsity teams assisted the Rider University's Center for Multicultural Affairs and Community Service by donating food during the 2006 annual drive.

    The Broncs lost to the University of Pennsylvania Sunday afternoon. “I think we’re getting better,” said head coach Tori Harrison. “We’re putting points on the board, we only had eight turnovers and we had a lot (16) of offensive rebounds. We just have to do a better job on defense.”

    Despite out-scoring the host Hawks in the second half, the Broncs fell to Monmouth Friday night. “We out-scored them in the second half, which is a good sign, but we can’t wait until the second half to start playing,” said Rider head coach Tori Harrison.  “Hopefully this was a lesson for them.”

    The Broncs began the 2006-07 season with a loss to Rice Sunday. “Rice is the best team we are going to see this year,” said Rider head coach Tori Harrison. “I’m not down on my team, because they fought hard and everything that went wrong today is correctable.”

    October 29, 2006 - Women's Basketball / Softball (Race for the Cure)

    A race with no clock yet time is against you.  A race where the rules change all the time.  And fairness?  There is nothing fair about having to run the race at all.  On Sunday, October 29, the Rider women’s basketball and softball teams, as part of the MAAC Gives Back and the Rider Athletics Partners in a Caring Community program participated in the Susan G. Komen New Jersey Race for the Cure, held at Bristol-Myers Squibb on Route 206 South in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.

    The 2006-2007 Rider University women’s basketball schedule features two teams who competed in the NCAA tournament last year, one game on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Television Network and a game at the Sovereign Bank Arena.

    July 6, 2006 - Sovereign Bank Arena, Rider University and the MAAC Awarded Two NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship Events

    The NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee has recommended that the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey, serve as one of the regional sites for the 2009 championship and as one of the sites for the first and second rounds of the 2010 championship.
