Cullen, Hayes Rider Athletes of Month
LAWRENCEVILLE—Jen Cullen of the softball team, and Jamie Hayes of the baseball team, were named the Rider University Athletes of the Month for the month of May.
Cullen (Lake Hopatcong) batted .440 in May with 11 hits in seven games, including four doubles, a home run and seven runs scored.
Hayes (Sunrise, FL/Piper) batted .435 in May with 20 hits in 13 games, including six doubles, a home run, and 16 runs batted in.
Hayes was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and the New Jersey College Baseball Association Division I Rookie of the Year, and earned second team All-MAAC honors.
Cullen was both the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week and the MAAC Player of the Week in May, and earned All-Tournament team honors in the MAAC Championship.
Cullen led the MAAC in hits this season (68), and was seventh in the MAAC in batting average (.376).
Hayes finished the season third in the MAAC in batting average (.386) and fourth in stolen bases (18).
Both the Rider baseball and softball teams advanced to the 2006 MAAC Championship tournaments.
