Rider Third Seed in MAAC
FISHKILL, NY—The Rider University baseball team (25-29, 17-10 MAAC) is the third seed, and will play the second seed, Manhattan College (29-21, 17-9 MAAC), at 7:00 pm Thursday in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship tournament, held at Dutchess County Stadium and hosted by Marist College. “This was the goal we set in the beginning of the season,” said Rider head coach Barry Davis, “and now we’re trying to enjoy the fact that we’ve accomplished that goal.”
Le Moyne College (36-12, 21-5 MAAC) is the top seed and will play the fourth seed, Niagara (27-24, 17-10 MAAC), at 3:00 pm Thursday in Game One.
“There are a lot of teams across the country that don’t have an opportunity to still be playing,” said Davis.
The losers of Games One and Game Two meet 11:00 am Friday in the elimination game, while the Game One and Game Two winners meet in Game 4 at 3:00 pm Friday. The winner of the elimination game plays the loser of Game 4 Friday evening at 7:00 pm.
“We’re just going to go up there and play as hard as we can,” said Davis.
The Championship Game is scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 pm, and if a seventh game is needed it will take place at 4:00 pm.
The winner of the MAAC advances to one of 16 four-team NCAA Regionals June 2-5. “We have a chance to compete in a national championship, and hopefully we’ll be able to take advantage of this great opportunity,” said Davis.
