Three members of the Rider University women’s soccer team were named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic team at the championship awards banquet Thursday evening.

The Broncs came back to tie Manhattan in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game Monday. The game, originally scheduled for Sunday but was rained out, marks the end of the 2006 Rider season. “We’re both young and are the top two teams not to make the tournament, so it is probably fitting that we tied today,” said Rider head coach Kevin Long. “It will be interesting to see these two programs grow over the next few years.”

The Rider women’s soccer Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game, scheduled at Manhattan on Sunday has been postponed due to wet field conditions.

Stayin’ alive. Not only was it a popular song in the late 1970’s, it was also the story of the 2006 Rider women’s soccer team, at least until 11:00pm. Friday night when the last of the conference scores were posted.

Freshman Alison Brody (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) scored the only goal of the game to give Rider a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win over Iona Tuesday, keeping Rider’s playoff hopes alive. “A lot of things have to align themselves for us to make the post-season tournament, but the important thing is we took care of business today and are still alive,” said Rider head coach Kevin Long.

The Broncs lost to Fairfield in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game Sunday. “It’s unfortunate that we lost,” said Rider head coach Kevin Long. “You’re playing the conference champion who certainly played every bit like the conference champion they are. Fairfield is a good team and looks in good shape to defend their title.”

The Rider University women’s soccer game with Iona, scheduled for Friday, October 20, was postponed due to rain, and will now be played on Tuesday, October 24, at 3pm.

The Rider at Penn women’s soccer game, scheduled for Tuesday night was rained out and will not be re-scheduled.  The teams were originally scheduled to play on September 2 and that date was also rained out.

Score early and often. The Broncs got the early part down today and held on to defeat Siena in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game Sunday afternoon.

You can’t teach height.  Using a decided height advantage that would be the envy of any basketball purist, Marist out jumped Rider on three separate plays and scored a 4-3 win over the Broncs Friday night.

Senior co-captain Kelli Burke (Churchville, PA/Council Rock South) scored a goal and added an assist in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win over Canisius Sunday. “We knew that if we did not win today that possibly we wouldn’t make the MAAC tournament,” said Burke, “so that had a huge effect on the game. We felt this was a must win.”

The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game to Niagara Friday. “Niagara is a wonderful team,” said Rider head coach Kevin Long. “They have pace up top and are dangerous any time they touch the ball.”

The Broncs began the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference portion of their schedule with a loss to MAAC-power Loyola Saturday. “I thought we played well, although the score doesn’t indicate it,” said Rider head coach Kevin Long. “Our team showed a lot of character not to give up, and maintain the same game plan we started with.  I thought we did a good job of executing that throughout the day.”

The Broncs fell to the Colonials Tuesday. “The second half we played much better,” said head coach Kevin Long. “We dominated play, we were more aggressive, and it was a different half.  You can’t say they won the first half and we won the second half, and count it as a tie. We only get the loss.”

The Broncs scored at the end of the first half, and held on to tie Monmouth Friday. “Another case of a tale of two halves,” said Rider head coach Kevin Long. “We’ll take the tie against a solid team, but we let a victory slip away today.”

In soccer, if you don’t let them score, you have a good chance to win the game.

The final day of September will be Soccer Alumni Day at Rider University, as the Broncs host Loyola College in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s and women’s doubleheader. “This could be a great day for both Rider teams,” said Rider women’s soccer coach Kevin Long.

Kim Carter, the goalkeeper on the Rider University women’s soccer team, was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for all games played September 11-17.

The Broncs battled Drexel to a 0-0 tie Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia. “We played much better today,” said Rider head coach Kevin Long. “We looked a lot like the Rider team that we expect to see on a day to day basis.”

The Rider women’s soccer team gave its coach the best birthday present he could ask for, a dominating victory. “The good news is that we were able to get a lot of offensive play in,” said head coach Kevin Long. “The bad news is that if we get that many shots, especially in close, we need to find the back of the net more often.” The Broncs defeated Delaware State 3-0 while out-shooting the visiting Hornets 34-1.

The Rider University women's soccer game, scheduled for Saturday, September 2, 2006, at 7:00pm, at the University of Pennsylvania has been postponed due to the heavy rain experienced in the area on Saturday.  The game has been re-scheduled for Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at Penn, starting at 7:00pm.

The young Broncs, with just two seniors on the roster, learned a valuable lesson Thursday night in a loss at LIU. “This was a good eye opener for us,” said head coach Kevin Long. “We have some dynamic players, but they are having a hard time recognizing the urgency needed to play well enough to win.”

Despite out-shooting the host Retrievers 16-9, the Broncs fell to 0-2 on the season with an overtime loss at the University of Maryland Baltimore County Sunday. “We played better than we did in the opener on Friday,” said Rider head coach Kevin Long.  “We dominated play today.”

The Broncs fell to Towson in the 2006 season opener Friday. “It was disappointing,” said Rider head coach Kevin Long. “ We want to win every game.”

The Rider University women’s soccer team begins the 2006 fall athletic season this Friday in a home doubleheader. The women’s soccer team hosts Towson at 1:30 pm Friday, and the men host Richmond at 4:00 pm.

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and ESPN announce plans to televise the 2006 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Soccer Championship games on ESPNU, live from the campus of Fairfield University on Sunday, November 5, 2006. 

Rider University women’s soccer head coach Kevin Long has announced the 2006 signing class. Eight newcomers will suit up in Cranberry and White for the 2006 season.   The 2006 class includes five local players from New Jersey, one from Coach Long’s home state of Virginia and two from Pennsylvania.
