Rider at Eastern Championships

PRINCETON—The Rider University track & field teams are competing in the Eastern Championships, the women in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships, and the men in the ICAAAA Championships.

The Rider men’s 4 x 100 relay team of junior David Payne (Neptune), freshman Desmond Hamilton (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken), senior Jay Hill (Matawan/St. JohnVianney) and senior Jamaal Harris (Beverly, N.J./Palmyra) placed first in its heat, fifth overall, with a time of 41.21, and advances to the finals on Sunday. “That’s moving,” said Rider coach Rob Pasquariello. “That’s the second fastest time ever at Rider. We’ll be going for the school record (41.11) tomorrow.  This event has awesome competition here.”

For the Rider women, sophomore Rebecca Clatch (Drums, Pa./Hazelton Area) placed 11th in the javelin (133’5”). “That was a season best for Rebecca,” said Pasquariello.

Junior Jazmine Fenlator (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley), who placed fifth in the discus on Friday, placed 13th in the hammer (164’). “Jaz has thrown the hammer better,” said Pasquariello. “She still has the shot put tomorrow.”

Senior Carla Wynter (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clarke) placed 20th in both the 200 (25.57) and the 400 (58.27) trails. “Carla did really well,” said Pasquariello. “That was her fastest 200 this year.”

Senior Mechea Medine (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) placed 21st in the long jump (16’5”).

Also for the Rider men, freshman Anthony Parillo (South River, N.J./South River) placed 13th in the long jump (23’), junior Danny Enck (Lititz, Pa./Warwick ) placed 27th in the hammer (164’5”) and Desmond Hamilton long jumped 22’5.75”

Competition continues Sunday with the women’s high jump and shot put, and the men’s 4 x 100 finals.
