Rider Fourth at MAAC Championships
Dalgewicz Coach of the Year
ORLANDO, FLORDIA—The Rider University golf team shot a 305 on Sunday for a three-day total of 927 to place fourth of nine teams at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Golf Championships, held at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex. “Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to your opponent,” said Rider head coach Chet Dalgewicz. “We played well Saturday and today, but some of the other teams just played better. We dug ourselves a hole on the first day that turned out to be too big to recover from.”
Rider head coach Chet Dalgewicz was named the MAAC Golf Coach of the Year. “This is a great honor,” said Dalgewicz, "but I would trade it for a championship trophy in a minute.”
“We’re all very happy for Chet,” said sophomore Tyler Brewington (Orangeville, Pa./Benton). “We wouldn’t have had the success we had this year without him.”
Brewington, who shot a 76 on Friday and a 74 Saturday, shot a 72 on Sunday on the par 72 Magnolia Golf Course, for a three-day total of 222, good for fourth place among the 45 golfers to earn All-MAAC honors for the second consecutive year. “Tyler improved each day, and you can’t really ask for much more than that,’ said Dalgewicz.
“One of my goals this year was to earn All-MAAC again, so I’m happy about that,” said Brewington. “After the way we played on Saturday we were hoping for better than a fourth place finish. So I’m not as happy about that.”
Sophomore Josh Krumholz (Reading, PA/Gov. Mifflin), who shot an 81 on Friday and a 75 on Saturday, had a 76 Sunday for a 232, good for tenth place overall and All-MAAC honors.
Also for Rider, senior Jonathan Kent (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) shot a 78 Sunday for a three-day total of 237, 17th overall.
Senior Brad Domenico (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) shot a 79 Sunday for a 239, good for 19th overall.
Sophomore Dylan Maxey (Montrose, PA/Montrose Area) had an 80 Sunday for a 243, 27th overall.
Siena won its 11th MAAC title, shooting a 296 on Sunday. Defending champion Loyola also shot a 296 Sunday to finish runner-up, just four strokes better than Rider.
Team Scores: Siena 908, Loyola 923, Iona 925, Rider 927, Niagara 938, Canisius 952, Fairfield 965, Manhattan 974, Saint Peter’s 1025
