Rider at 23rd TCNJ Lions’ Invitational

EWING—The Rider University men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams competed at the 23rd annual Lions’ Invitational, hosted by The College of New Jersey Saturday.

For the women’s team, junior Jazmine Fenlator (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) broke her own Rider records in both the hammer (51.14m) and the shot put (47’0.25”), winning both events.  Senior Mechea Medine (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) won the long jump (5.28m).

For the men’s team sophomore Randy Nixon (Manorville, N.Y./West Hampton) won the 100m (11.16) and was second in the 110m hurdles, running a personal record and IC4A qualifying time of 14.64.  Junior Danny Enck (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) won the hammer with a throw of 49.86m.

“I think today’s effort sets us up well for the conference championships next week,” said head coach Rob Pasquariello.  “Jazmine, Randy and Danny, those are three of the athletes that we are going to need at the top of their game in order for us to be successful next week.”

Also for the women, freshman Andrea Campbell (Somers Point, N.J./Mainland Regional) was second in the 3000m steeplechase (11:52.27) and sophomore Rebecca Clatch (Drums, Pa./Hazelton Area) was second in the javelin (37.94m).

Also for the men, sophomore Gary Morris (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) was second in the 400m hurdles (54.77), sophomore Paul Matuszak (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) finished second in the 3000m steeplechase (10:03.89) with freshman A.J. Parillo (South River, N.J./South River) placing second in the long jump (6.84m).

The depth and total team effort all season has coach Pasquariello looking forward to MAAC’s next weekend, hosted by Rider.

“I definitely think we are deeper but the conference is deeper as well.  The conference is stronger in the events that we have gotten stronger.  It’s kind of a catch-22.  We have to have enough strength team wide to have a chance to beat perennial power Manhattan.  And I think that we do.  We have a good shot on both sides (men and women), as long as everyone from top to bottom performs their best.  It’s going to take a total team effort to have a chance at the conference championship,” said Pasquariello.

“We are all coming together at the right time and I think we will do well,” Pasquariello added.

Rider hosts the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference outdoor track and field championships on Saturday May 6 (4:00pm) and Sunday May 7 (12 noon).
