Rider at MAAC Championships
Men: Fairfield 7, Rider 0
Women: Niagara 6, Rider 1

FLUSHING MEADOWS, NY—The Rider women lost to Niagara and the Rider men lost to Fairfield in the first round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships Friday, held at the United States Tennis Association Center in New York. “The score didn’t indicate how the women’s match went,” said Rider head coach Ed Torres. “The men didn’t play as well today as we have been, but the women played well against a good team.”

For the Rider women (11-8, 2-4 MAAC) junior Caitlin Crawbuck (Jacobstown/Northern Burlington Regional) won at third singles for her 17th consecutive victory. “The streak is alive,” said Torres.  “All of the women gave it their all,” Torres said.

For the Rider men (10-12, 1-5 MAAC) freshman Casey Jedlinski (Manalapan) was the only Bronc to go three sets. “We were a little flat today and I’m not sure why,” said Torres. “Casey played well.”

The consolations rounds have been cancelled due to rain. “It’s a shame we can’t continue in the consolation rounds,” said Torres. “It seems to rain every year, causing the championship rounds to move inside and canceling the consolation rounds.”
