Caitlin Crawbuck wins 15th straight

LAWRENCEVILLE—The Broncs swept Wagner Thursday, winning every set and every match. “We have a tough MAAC opponent in Loyola coming up, and this was a good tune up for that,” said Rider head coach Ed Torres.

For the Rider women (3-2 spring, 11-6 overall) junior Caitlin Crawbuck (Jacobstown/Northern Burlington Regional) won 6-0, 6-0 at third singles for her 15th consecutive singles victory dating back to the fall season. Crawbuck is now 16-1 on the year, including 5-0 in the spring. Her streak was not in jeopardy today, but it was last week with a trip to Patriot League power Lafayette.  “Last week at Lafayette was a really good match,” said Crawbuck.  “She was the best player I’ve faced this spring.” Crawbuck won at Lafayette last week 7-5, 6-2.

For the Rider men (5-3 spring, 9-11 overall), freshman Casey Jedlinski (Manalapan) improved to 9-4 on the year and 6-2 in the spring with a 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles. “Casey has been very steady for us,” said Torres.

Rider hosts Loyola Monday, which should bring back fond memories for Crawbuck.  “My very first match at Rider (fall of 2004) was against Loyola, and it went three sets. I am the last one out on the court and I happen to win and we win the match,” Crawbuck remembers. Welcome to Rider Tennis!

Crawbuck should be used to being the last one on the court. Her style of returning everything causes long matches. “She wears down her opponents,” said Torres. “She is very steady, returns everything, and her opponents get frustrated.”

After the Loyola match, the women are off until the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships, held at the USTA Center in Flushing, NY. Last year Crawbuck earned second team All-MAAC honors behind the number three singles player from Siena College. A loss this fall to Denisa Hluchova of Siena is the only thing standing in the way of a perfect record.  “I would love to see her again at the MAAC tournament,” said Crawbuck.

Hopefully she’ll be able to keep her streak going.
