Rider’s Hayes Honored by NJCBA

LAWRENCEVILLE—Freshman Jamie Hayes of the Rider University baseball team was named the New Jersey College Baseball Association Division I Rookie of the Week for all games played April 3-9.

Hayes (Sunrise, Fla./Piper) batted .582 last week with seven hits, while scoring five runs and knocking in four and stealing three bases, leading Rider to a 4-0 week.

Hayes also took the mound to end a pair of Rider wins last week, earning the save against Seton Hall and striking out all three batters he faced in the ninth inning against La Salle.

Hayes was also honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference as the Rookie of the Week, and is currently batting .283 with 26 hits in his first 27 collegiate games. On the mound, Hayes is 1-0 with two saves and an earned run average of 3.52, and has compiled eight strike outs in less than eight innings pitched.
