Rider 7th of 14 at Princeton Invitational-Day One

SPRINGDALE—The Broncs are currently in seventh place after the rain-shortened first day of the two-day, 14-team Princeton Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday at the Springdale Golf Club. “We had some rough conditions today but the Rider kids really hung in there and I’m very proud of them,” said Rider head coach Chet Dalgewicz.

On Saturday, Rider shot a 309, after the scheduled 36-hole day was shortened to 18 holes due to the inclement weather. Columbia and Pennsylvania led the field, each shooting a 304. “We’re in seventh place in a field that is excellent, and we’re only five strokes out of first place,” said Dalgewicz.

For the Broncs, senior Brad Domenico (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) shot a two over par 73 to place fourth among the 70 golfers. “In these conditions that was a fantastic score,” said Dalgewicz. “Brad had a heck of a round.”

Also for Rider, senior Jonathan Kent (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) and sophomore Tyler Brewington (Orangeville, Pa./Benton) each had a 78, and sophomore Josh Krumholz (Reading, PA/Gov. Mifflin) shot an 80. “We started in drizzle but as we were playing it began to come down hard and the wind picked up and it got colder,” said Dalgewicz.  “It was tough to hold the clubs for 18 holes in 40 degrees, but the guys were tough and I’m proud of them.”

Sophomore Dylan Maxey (Montrose, PA/Montrose Area) added an 87 for Rider.

Play continues Sunday morning with one, 18-hole round. “In a shortened tournament anything can happen,” said Dalgewicz.

Team scoring: Columbia 304, Penn 304, George Mason 306, Princeton 306, Villanova 306, George Washington 307, Rider 309, Drexel 310, Georgetown 311, Navy 312, St. Joseph’s 318, Liberty 318, St. John’s 318, Temple 323
