Rider 4th of 15 at Lonnie Barton Memorial-Day One

BLUFFTON, SC—The Broncs began their spring season at the second annual Lonnie Barton Memorial tournament, held Saturday and Sunday. “We’re just five strokes out of second place, so we’re right there,” said Rider golf coach Chet Dalgewicz.

Rider shot a 325, fourth best among the 15 teams. Jackson State leads the field with a 312, Fairfield has a 320, and Concord shot a 324. Indiana University of Pennsylvania trails Rider in fifth place with a 327.

For Rider, sophomore Tyler Brewington (Orangeville, Pa./Benton) had the seventh best round among the 80 golfers with a 78 on the par 72 Pinecrest Golf Club course. “Tyler had a decent round on a very tough course,” said Dalgewicz.

Senior Brad Domenico (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) shot a 79, after being one of the last Broncs to qualify.  “Brad really put it together today,” said Dalgewicz.  “He didn’t break 80 in two days down here, but he came up big for us today.”

Senior Jonathan Kent (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) had an 82, sophomore Josh Krumholz (Reading, PA/Gov. Mifflin) shot an 86, and sophomore Dylan Maxey (Montrose, PA/Montrose Area) shot an 88, but it was Brewington who had the shot of the day.

“On the fifth hole Tyler’s ball hits the bank and goes into the water,” Dalgewicz said. “He takes his shoe off, goes in and chipped it three feet from the flag to save par.”

Competition continues Sunday. “We’re starting at 8:00 am on Sunday,” Dalgewicz said.
