ANNAPOLIS, MD—Two Rider University divers competed at the NCAA Zone “A” Championships this weekend, hosted by the United States Naval Academy.
In the one-meter event on Saturday, sophomore Dylan Korn (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake) advanced to finals, where he placed 18th with a score of 444.85 (12 dives). “Dylan was as high as 13th for most of the competition,” said Rider diving coach Dennis Ceppa.
Senior Chris Coles (Plainsboro, N.J./WW-P North) placed 27th with a score of 196.70 (six dives).
“All things considered, I’m very proud of both of them,” said Ceppa. “Just to qualify for this NCAA event is quite an accomplishment.”
In the three-meter event on Friday, senior Coles placed 20th (244.20) and Korn was 24th (236.30).
Korn was the MAAC Champion in the three-meter dive this winter and Coles placed third in the three-meter dive at the ECAC Championships.
Korn was the MAAC Champion and placed second in the ECAC in the one-meter dive this winter.
Of the 50 divers who qualified for the Zone A Championships, four advanced to the NCAA National Championships in Atlanta.
Coles and Korn are just the second and third Rider dives to qualify for an NCAA Zone Championship, and the first since 2003.
