Rider at NCAA Zone Diving Championships

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Two Rider University divers are competing at the NCAA Zone “A” Championships this weekend, hosted by the United States Naval Academy.

In the three-meter event on Friday, senior Chris Coles (Plainsboro, N.J./WW-P North) placed 20th (244.20) and sophomore Dylan Korn (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake) was 24th (236.30). The top 18 advanced to the finals.

“Chris just missed qualifying for finals,” said Rider diving coach Dennis Ceppa.  “Dylan is a better diver than what he showed today.”

Korn was the MAAC Champion in the three-meter dive this winter and Coles placed third in the three-meter dive at the ECAC Championships.

The one-meter event is Saturday, also at Navy. Korn was the MAAC Champion and placed second in the ECAC in the one-meter dive this winter. “We’re looking to make it to the finals in the one-meter,” said Ceppa.

Of the 50 divers who qualified for the Zone A Championships, four will advance to the NCAA National Championships in Atlanta.

Coles and Korn are just the second and third Rider dives to qualify for an NCAA Zone Championship, and the first since 2003.
