Rider’s Thompson, Johnson Honored by MAAC
Bronc Men Play Saint Peter’s, Women Face Manhattan
LAWRENCEVILLE—The official pairings for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Basketball Championship tournament, held at the Pepsi Arena in Albany, NY, were announced Monday, along with the All-MAAC teams.
The Rider men’s team will face the fifth seed, Saint Peter’s, on Friday, March 3 at 4:30 pm. The winner of that game plays Saturday at 5:00 pm against the fourth seed and host team, Siena.
The Rider women play Thursday, March 2 at 4:00 pm against the sixth seed, Manhattan, and the winner of that game plays Friday at 1:15 pm against the third seed, Loyola.
Sophomore Jason Thompson (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) was named to the men’s All-MAAC second team, and freshman Lamar Johnson (Scranton, PA/Scranton) was named to the MAAC All-Rookie team.
Thompson ranks fourth in the MAAC in rebounding (8.4), seventh in scoring (16.5), third in blocks (45) and sixth in field goal percentage (.549).
Johnson compiled 5.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game as a freshman, averaging 20.5 minutes played per game. Johnson played in 26 games this season, starting 11. Johnson made 34 three-point field goals, third most on the team.
The women’s Championship Game is Sunday at 12 noon.
The men’s Championship Game is Monday, March 6, at 9:00 pm, televised on ESPN2.
