Message from Don Harnum, Director of Athletics

Every year, over 300 Rider University student-athletes participate in intercollegiate competition. As an NCAA Division I athletic program, Rider offers 20 varsity sports, 18 in the competitive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with field hockey competing in the Northeast Conference (NEC), and wrestling in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).

But here's the real deal: Our success parallels your success—especially off the field.

When we use the term "student-athlete," we mean it. We expect great things from you athletically and in the classroom, and we have the support in place to help you achieve excellence in both pursuits.   In fact, I am proud to point out that during the spring of 2006, the cumulative semester grade point average for all Rider student-athletes was a best-ever 3.00, compared to the 2.92 grade point average for Rider’s non-student-athlete population.  In addition, 53 percent of Rider’s student-athletes received a 3.0 or better grade point average which is a testament to the dedication of everyone involved in the area of academic support at Rider.

The Athletics Department not only strives to nurture the athlete in you, but also holds great respect and admiration for those on the sidelines and in the stands. Without the support of the whole Rider community, we would not be where we are today.

I welcome you all to the Rider University athletics program. Join us as we strive to achieve excellence in education and athletics.

With best wishes,

Don Harnum, Director of Athletics
