Rider Athletes of the Month
Wrestler Kessler, Swimmer Modrov
LAWRENCEVILLE—Mike Kessler of the wrestling team, and Priscilla Modrov of the swimming & diving team, were named the Rider University Athletes of the Month for all competition in January.
Kessler, a freshman from Randallstown, MD (Owings Mills), was 10-2 in January, with one of those losses a 10-9 decision to the 20th ranked wrestler in the nation.
Modrov, a freshman from Smithtown, NY (Hauppauge), broke three pool records in January, two at Rider and one at Lafayette. In her last 11 swims she had 11 first place finishes in nine different events.
Modrov broke the Lafayette Pool record in the 400 individual medley by 7.6 seconds, a record that stood since 1995. She broke the Rider Coppola Pool record in the 500 free by 3.58 seconds, and the 1000 free by 5.8 seconds. She currently has the fastest times in the MAAC in the 200 free, the 500 free, the 1000 free, the 200 individual medley and the 400 individual medley.
Kessler won all six of his Colonial Athletic Association dual meets in January and was named the CAA Rookie of the Week the third week of January. Kessler is currently ranked third in the CAA in his 149 pound weight class.
