Rider to Play at Northeastern

LAWRENCEVILLE—The Rider University basketball team will travel to Boston to take on Northeastern University in the final non-conference game of the regular season, on Saturday, February 18 at 1:00pm.

“I certainly have a lot of respect for Northeastern and the job Coach Ron Everhart has done there over the past several years,” said Rider coach Tommy Dempsey. “We’re excited to play against a quality opponent, and I think playing Northeastern will only help prepare us for the MAAC tournament. It is a great challenge and one we are looking forward to.”

The match-up resulted out of participating in the original pool of teams that were under consideration for the BracketBusters presented by eBay.

In April, 2005, ESPN selected 100  teams, representing 18 conferences, to participate in the BracketBusters presented by eBay "pool" of teams. Of the 100 teams, 26 teams (13 games) have been selected by ESPN as the 2006  "BracketBusters presented by eBay" field which will be showcased on various ESPN platforms (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN360). For the remaining 74 teams in the "pool", of which Rider is one, an intra-conference home and home series was created.

Other MAAC games include Fairfield at Loyola-Chicago, Niagara at Valparaiso, and Siena at Hofstra, while Canisius will host Youngstown State, Loyola will host High Point, Manhattan will host Long Beach State and Saint Peter’s will host UNC Greensboro.

Iona College and Marist College have earned television appearances for their final non-conference match-ups this season as part of the MAAC’s participation in the BracketBusters presented by eBay.  Iona will play Buffalo and Marist will play Old Dominion.
