EASTON, PA—The Broncs split their meet at Lafayette Wednesday. For Rider head coach Steve Fletcher, it was a bit of a homecoming, returning to his alma mater. “It brings back a lot of fond memories being in this building again,” said Fletcher, who set Lafayette team records while competing there. “It is a cool feeling going back to your alma mater.”
The Broncs were once again led by the Modrov siblings, older brother Brandon Modrov (Smithtown, NY/Hauppauge), a junior, and younger sister Priscilla Modrov, a freshman.
For the Rider men (8-3) Brandon Modrov won the 400 individual medley (4:09.91), the 100 breaststroke (1:00.97) and the 200 breaststroke (2:18.51).
For the Rider women (4-7), Priscilla Modrov broke the Lafayette Pool record in the 400 individual medley (4:30.80) and also won the 100 free (54.47) and the 200 free (1:56.71).
“I admit there were some extra juices flowing tonight, since this is where Coach swam,” said Priscilla. “That time was very close to my personal best. I wasn’t really expecting a pool record.”
“I think we all wanted to help make Coach look good in front of his old school,” Brandon said.
It seems Fletcher has made Brandon look good over the past few years. “Brandon improved so much since coming here,” Priscilla said. “I knew I would get faster here with these great coaches, so seeing what Coach did for Brandon was a huge influence on me coming here.”
“I’m very happy Priscilla came here,” said Brandon. “She’s great for the team.”
“Our relationship has grown over the last year,” said Priscilla, “being teammates. We’re closer now than we’ve ever been, and my family loves that. And we have a younger brother, Drew, who is pretty good too. That would be fun if he came here too. We’ll just keep it in the family.”
“Drew comes to every meet,” Brandon said. “He’s a Rider fan, looks up to the guys on the team.”
“The meet went pretty much as expected,” said Fletcher. “Their women are very strong. We had some good performances from our women, with Priscilla breaking the pool record, and Lauren.” Junior Lauren Urbanski (Lansdowne, Pa./Upper Darby ) won the 200 butterfly (2:08.63) and the 100 butterfly (59.66).
“It was a nice win for the men,” Fletcher added. For the men senior Dan Burgess (Greeley, CO/Union Colony Prep) won the 100 butterfly (52.10), the 200 free (1:44.34) and the 50 free (21.88). Also for the Rider men, junior Andy French (Richfield, MN) won the 1650 free (16:35.23) and the 500 free (5:03.04), freshman Josh Rosenbluth (Lawrenceville/Lawrence) won the 100 backstroke (53.57) and the 200 backstroke (1:56.00), junior Eric McFerin (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) won the 100 free (48.04), sophomore Dylan Korn (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake) won the 1-meter dive (242.70), senior Chris Coles (Plainsboro, N.J./WW-P North) won the 3-meter dive (276.98).
Also for the Rider women, junior Courtney Clark (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) won the 1650 free (17:51.96), junior Shannon Kahler (Ojai, Calif./Chaparral/Grossmont CC) won the 3-meter dive (188.48) and senior Kristen Enoch (Hatboro, Pa./Upper Moreland) won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.03).
