NEW ROCHELLE, NY--The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Iona Sunday afternoon. “We fought hard, we just made some critical mistakes at the end,” said Rider head coach Tori Harrison. “Offensively we played much better until the end.”

Iona (6-9, 3-3 MAAC) led 59-56 before out-scoring Rider 19-2 over the final 4:37 of the game, eight points by Tiara Headen, who finished with 18. “We were only down three points and we stopped scoring," said Harrison.

Rider (2-13, 1-5 MAAC) trailed 45-32 before going on an 18-6 run, nine points by freshman Danielle Costantino (Norristown, PA/Archbishop Carroll), to cut the lead to 51-50 with 8:19 left to play, but that was as close as the Broncs could get. Costantino finished with 13 points off the bench. “Danielle sparked us in the second half,” said Harrison.

6’5” Martina Weber led Iona with 23 points. “They were 6-5, 6-3, 6-2,” Harrison said.  Their stature was so much bigger. We did a good job to go up against a team of that size.”

Junior Monica Welborn (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) scored 14 points for Rider. “Monica shot the ball well today,” said Harrison.  Welborn was seven for nine from the field.

Junior Kara Borel (East Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) had 12 points and six rebounds for Rider. “Kara played well for us today,” Harrison said.

Freshman Shaunice Parker (Waldorf, MD/West Lake) added 11 points and five rebounds off the bench.  Senior Christine Catalanotto (Flushing, NY/Christ the King) added a career-high nine assists and just four turnovers, and had four points for the Broncs. “Christine ran the club well today,” said Harrison. “She had a lot of assists and hardly any turnovers.”
