PISCATAWAY—The Rider men’s team spilt with Rutgers and Seton Hall, and the Rider women lost to both Rutgers and Seton Hall at Rutgers Wednesday. “Rutgers is an outstanding team, and we competed well with them,” said Rider head coach Steve Fletcher.
For the Rider men, freshman Josh Rosenbluth (Lawrenceville/Lawrence High) won both the 100 backstroke (53.08) and the 200 backstroke (1:54.85), placed second in the 200 individual medley (1:57.92) and swam on the winning 200 medley relay (1:35.74).
Also on the winning medley relay was junior Brandon Modrov (Smithtown, NY/Hauppauge), senior Dan Burgess (Greeley, CO/Union Colony Prep) and junior Eric McFerin (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington).
Senior Chris Coles (Plainsboro, N.J./WW-P North) won the 3-meter dive (258.40) and sophomore Dylan Korn (Hawthorne, NY/Westlake) won the 1-meter dive, and the Broncs won the 200 free relay comprised of sophomore Peter Starr (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area Senior) , McFerin, senior Trevor Vernal (Milford, Conn./Notre Dame) and freshman Bryan Mejia (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch).
“For Josh to come back this strong was great to see,” said Fletcher. “His times aren’t there yet, but considering all of the time off, it was a very impressive showing.”
Rosenbluth was twice named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference swimmer of the week this season, before a shoulder injury shut him down. “I got to the point where I just couldn’t train, so the trainers shut me down for about a month and a half,” said Rosenbluth. “It was horrible sitting out and watching, but the rehab went well, and the training in Florida got me back to where I am now.”
“Josh has excellent technique,” said Fletcher. “He’s smooth and fluid, and very competitive.”
“I was surprised I was able to do so well in my first meet back,” said Rosenbluth. “Rutgers is such a strong team, I didn’t expect to be able to beat them in one event, let alone three. My times aren’t really where I want them to be yet, but finishing first was a pleasant surprise.”
Junior Andy French (Richfield, MN) placed second in the 500 free (4:47.62), Burgess placed second in both the 100 butterfly (52.57) and the 200 free (1:44.61), McFerin was second in the 50 free (21.59), Modrov placed second in the 200 breaststroke (2:10.43).
For the Rider women freshman Priscilla Modrov (Smithtown, NY/Hauppauge) placed fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:12.13), junior Lauren Urbanski (Lansdowne, Pa./Upper Darby ) placed fourth in the 100 butterfly (59.30), sophomore Stephanie Cosentino (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame) placed fifth in both the 100 free (55.13) and the 50 free (25.11), junior Shannon Kahler (Ojai, Calif./Chaparral/Grossmont CC) was fifth in the 1-meter dive (202.35).
The 200 medley relay placed fourth in 1:51.98, with freshman Ericka Kriedel (Wethersfield, Conn./Wethersfield), Urbanski, Modrov and Cosentino, and the 200 free relay placed fourth in 1:45.57 with senior Rose Brenner (Cape May/Lower Cape May Regional), junior Courtney Clark (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara), senior Jennifer Feenstra (Reading, PA/Gov. Mifflin) and freshman Kelsey Tokar (Frederick, MD/Gov. Thomas Johnson).
Rider hosts Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Loyola in the Coppola Pool Saturday at 1pm.
