Six members of the Rider University tennis teams were named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic team.

The Rider women lost to Niagara and the Rider men lost to Fairfield in the first round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships Friday, held at the United States Tennis Association Center in New York. “The score didn’t indicate how the women’s match went,” said Rider head coach Ed Torres. “The men didn’t play as well today as we have been, but the women played well against a good team.”

The Rider University tennis teams are both seeded sixth in the eight-team Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships this weekend, held at the United States Tennis Association Center in New York. “It was important to stay away from the top two teams in the first round,” said Rider head coach Ed Torres. “Once you get away from the top two, anything can happen.”

Junior Radgee Saberon of the Rider University men’s tennis team has been honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference as the MAAC tennis player of the week for all matches played April 11-17.

Rider split a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match with Loyola Monday, with the men getting their first MAAC victory. “It was good timing for the men to get a MAAC win, right before the tournament,” said Rider head coach Ed Torres. “That will help keep us away from the top two teams in the first round.”

The Broncs swept Wagner Thursday, winning every set and every match. “We have a tough MAAC opponent in Loyola coming up, and this was a good tune up for that,” said Rider head coach Ed Torres.

April 11, 2006 - Rider 4 Monmouth 3

The Broncs defeated Monmouth for the second time this year, having beaten the Hawks in the fall at Rider. “We had some players who were ill and couldn’t play singles, so we changed things around a bit today and came away with a win,” said Rider head coach Ed Torres.

The Broncs were swept by the Stags in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match at Fairfield Sunday. “Fairfield is a good team,” said Rider head coach Ed Torres. ‘Their men have won nine in a row.”

The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match to Manhattan Saturday, held indoors at Saint Peter’s College. “Manhattan is the two-time defending MAAC Champion, and they’ve been beating everyone like this,” said Rider head coach Ed Torres.

Rider University senior Chris Stanco was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all competition March 28-April 3.

The Broncs swept Delaware State on Sunday. “We played very well today,” said Rider head coach Ed Torres.

Senior Chris Stanco (Downingtown, PA) won singles and doubles to lead Rider to victory over Fordham Tuesday. “This was a good match between two evenly matched teams, but Chris was the man today,” said Rider head coach Ed Torres. “Stanco was the hero.”

The Broncs swept Holy Cross Saturday to even their spring record at 1-1. “The match yesterday (Temple) really helped us,” said Rider head coach Ed Torres.  “It tuned us up, and today we played much better.”
