Rider at Princeton's New Year's Invitational

PRINCETON--The Broncs competed in the extremely talented field at the Princeton New Year’s Invitational Saturday, and came away with some outstanding performances of their own. “This was a high quality college meet, with several of the best programs in the East,” said Rider coach Rob Pasquariello.  “There were high caliber performances today in every event, and we had some too.”

For the women’s team, junior Jazmine Fenlator (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) placed second in the shot put with a Rider record toss of 46’ 3.25” and placed fourth in the wt. throw with a toss of 56’ 4.5”. Both distances were good enough to qualify for the ECAC Championships.

Senior Krystle Daniels (Brooklyn, NY/South Shore) set a new Rider record in the wt. throw with a toss of 57’ 2” to place second and qualify for the ECACs.

For the Rider men, junior David Payne (Neptune) was the top collegiate finisher and placed second overall in the 60m with an IC4A qualifying time of 6.96. Sophomore Randy Nixon (Manorville, NY/West Hampton) was second in the 60m hurdles (8.40). Junior Doug Beck (Branchburg/Somerville) was second in the shot put (50’ 4.75”) and eighth in the wt. throw (52’ 11.5”).  Senior Ayotunde Owodunni (Sicklewrville/Highland Regional) placed second in the 500 (1:05.26).

Also for the Rider women, senior Ashley Miller (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) was third in the long jump (17’ 6.25”) and senior Mechea Medine (Pittstown/Delaware Valley) was fourth in the long jump (17’ 3.5”) and sixth in the triple jump (35’ 6”).  Junior Katie O’Connor (Forked River/Lacey Twp.) placed fourth in the high jump (5’5”), freshman Tabatha Haskins (Medford/Shawnee) placed fourth in the triple jump (36’ 5.5”) and fifth in the 60m hurdles (9.35), freshman Alexandra Sharry (Ramsey) placed eighth in the 500m (1:20.14)

Junior Dave Lado (Ridgefield) was fourth in the 1,000m (2:30.65), freshman Tim Cook (Glassboro) was fifth in the high jump (6’ 6”), freshman Matt Dahl (West Keansburg/Raritan) was sixth in the mile (4:26.75) and sophomore Jeff Stead (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) was seventh in the 3,000m (8:50.28).

Senior Jay Hill (Matawan/St. John Vianney) set a pair of Personal Records, in the 300m (35.87) with a sixth place finish and in the 60m dash (7.11) with an 11th place finish. Freshman Desmond Hamilton (Pennsauken) was sixth in the long jump (22’ 9.25”) and seventh in the 300 m (35.91).

 “I tell the athletes to compete without fear, and against one of the strongest fields they are going to see they did just that,” said Pasquariello. 

Rider is now off for exams and the holidays, and competes again January 6 at Fordham’s Kick Off Invitational. “I’m proud of the way they competed today. They weren’t afraid to make mistakes. They went out aggressive, great way to go into the break.”
