Rider Signs Six Recruits

LAWRENCEVILLE—Rider University head baseball coach Barry Davis announced he has signed six recruits during the early signing period.

Eric Carmichael of West Grove, PA, Brian Herman of Levittown, PA, Eric Woodrow of Hamilton, Clint Lawyer of Mullica Hill, Nick Wojnowski of Baldwin, MD and Darron Lattomus of Springfield, VA have signed national letters of intent to further their educations and baseball careers at Rider in September.

Carmichael, a senior at Avon Grove High School, is a 6’2”, 216 lb. left-handed pitcher who earned First Team All-Area and First Team All-Southern Chester County League honors as a junior, and pitched for the Chester County Carpenter Cup team. “Eric shows the ability to be a quality pitcher at this level,” said Davis.  “His signing adds another strong, left-hander to our pitching staff.” Carmichael was 7-0 with an earned run average of 2.03 last year, compiling 53 strikeouts in 41 innings.

Herman, a senior at Conwell-Egan Catholic High School, is a right-handed pitcher who has compiled an overall record of 6-3 in two seasons at CEC with seven saves.  “Brian has a tremendous upside as a pitcher,” said Davis.  “He shows the ability to throw three different pitches with velocity.” Herman has pitched 78.2 innings for CEC, allowed 52 hits with an earned run average of 2.33. He has compiled 95 strikeouts and 32 walks, and is expected to be CEC’s number one starter this spring. “He’s a sleeper that will add to a staff that only loses one pitcher this year to graduation.”

Woodrow, a senior at Hamilton West High School, is a catcher who batted .360 as a junior with 15 RBI in 17 games. “Eric gives us the needed depth at the catcher position,” Davis said.  “He is a strong defender who will compete right away for playing time.” Last summer he batted .293 for the Broad Street American Legion team, earning al-star honors.

Lawyer, a senior at Clearview High School, is an infielder who earned All-conference and All Group 3 honors last season. “Clint will compete for the third base job as a freshman,” said Davis.  At Clearview Lawyer has compiled a .371 batting average with 62 hits, 54 stolen bases and 50 RBI. “He is a speedy left-handed hitter who will add toughness and desire to the program from day one.”  On the Clearview football team he was a second team All-conference selection as a junior, and has compiled 1,610 rushing yards and 800 receiving yards, along with 25 touchdowns.

Wojnowski, a senior at Calvert Hall College High School, is an outfielder who batted .410 as a junior on the team that was ranked seventh in the nation by USA Today. “Nick has played at a high level in high school and we expect him to bring those qualities to our team,” said Davis.  “He is a plus offensive player who has a great work ethic. He can play all three outfield positions.” At Calvert Hall Wojnowski also is a member of the varsity basketball team.

Lattomus, a senior at West Springfield High School, is a three-year starting outfielder, and led the 2005 District Champions in stolen bases.  “Darron is a prototypical leadoff hitter,” said Davis. “I like the running game and Darron will be asked to be the catalyst for that.”
