NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY—The Rider season came to an end Saturday with a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference loss to Niagara. “We played well today against a playoff team,” said head coach Emily Ahlquist.  “with the win on Friday and the solid effort today I think our season ended with a bang.”

Niagara (15-9, 5-3 MAAC) won 30-23, 30-25, 26-30, 30-26.

For the Broncs (10-19, 2-7 MAAC), senior Kristine Dormer (Bowie, Md./Elizabeth Seton) compiled 44 assists, after a career-high 49 assists on Friday. “We played a new formation, a five-one, where we have five hitters and one setter,” said Ahlquist.  “This was the first time Kristine had ever played that and she did it very well.”

“The four seniors are feeling a great deal of emotion right now,” said Dormer after her final career match. “We’re sad that the season is over, but happy that we ended on such a positive note. We wanted to end the season on a good note and we did. We had nothing to be ashamed of.”

Senior Stefanie Lombardo (New Castle, Pa./Laurel) compiled 19 kills, junior Megan Smith (Webster, NY) had 15 kills, and freshman Lacey Johnson (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) added 12 kills, 19 digs and four service aces.

“We had ups and downs all season, and this weekend was definitely an up,” said Ahlquist.
