LAWRENCEVILLE—On Senior Day, the Broncs enjoyed a come-from-behind Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory over Marist Saturday. “It was very fitting to get this win on senior day,” said Rider head coach Emily Ahlquist. “We held our composure today the entire match, everyone was involved.”

The victory was also the first for Rider in conference competition. “The monkey is off our backs, and now we can push on from here,” said Ahlquist.  “In our league anyone can beat anyone else on any given day, and to do it at home in front of a nice crowd on senior day was special.”

The Red Foxes won the first game 30-23, before Rider came back to win 30-28, 30-21, 30-21.

For Rider (9-17, 1-5 MAAC) sophomore Nastasja Avramovic (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast) had 32 digs and six service aces. “Nastasja served very well today,” Ahlquist said. “I don’t know what it was today,” said Avramovic. “ I think with the big crowd, being senior day, I just wanted to concentrate on the serve today. Serving is something I can control, the only individual part of the sport.”

“Our blocking took their middles out of the game,” said Ahlquist.  (Senior)  Embrey (Minor) and our middles really played well. That was the most our middles (Megan Smith and Jennifer Drummond) have been involved in a match this year.  They got a ton of sets, and that’s what we like to see.”

Minor had 39 assists and 13 digs. Senior Stefanie Lombardo (New Castle, Pa/Laurel) had 10 kills and 24 digs, and senior Kristine Dormer (Bowie, Md/Elizabeth Seton) added 13 kills and 17 assists.

Rider plays the final home match of the season Sunday against Siena. “It feels great to get the conference win,” said Avramovic. “We figured it out with the win today we still have a chance to make the playoffs.  That was important, but more importantly was to win on our last home weekend in front of so many fans and parents.”
