Crotty, Smith Rider Athletes of Month

LAWRENCEVILLE—Tricia Crotty of the field hockey team, and John Smith of the cross country team, have been named the Rider University Athletes of the Month for October.

Crotty, a freshman from Lewistown, PA (Indian Valley), led Rider to the Northeast Conference regular season title and to the NEC Championship game.  The NEC Rookie of the Year, Crotty was twice named the NEC Rookie of the Week in October and was also named to the NEC All-Tournament team.

Smith, a sophomore from Cliffwood Beach (Matawan), earned All-MAAC honors at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships, leading Rider to a fourth place finish in the 10-team race.

Smith finished first for Rider in all three meets he ran in October, including a second place finish overall at the Rider Invitational, and a 14th overall finish at the MAAC Championships.

Crotty scored two goals in Rider’s 3-2 semi-final win over Fairfield, and led the NEC with six game-winning goals this year.

Smith has finished first among Rider runners in every cross country race the last two years.
