RIVERDALE, NY—The Broncs tied Manhattan in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game Friday. “The score is pretty much indicative of the way the game went,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager. “Most of the game was played between the 18’s, with not many scoring opportunities. A very lackluster day for both teams.”
Manhattan (1-13-1, 1-3-1 MAAC) out-shot Rider (3-9-4, 2-3-2 MAAC) 5-1 in the first half, but after that the shots were even, with the Jaspers holding a 15-11 advantage for the game.
“(Senior) Dylan Matlack (Geigertown, Pa./Twin Valley) hit the cross bar mid way through the second half, and that was probably the best scoring chance we had,” said Fager.
Rider junior goalkeeper Dan Riverso (Williamstown) made six saves for the shutout. “Manhattan didn’t have many chances to score either,” said Fager. “Dan wasn’t really tested, although he did make one big save on a ball served into the box. He played his normal, steady game, and didn’t make any mistakes.”
“This outcome is not what we wanted,” said Riverso, “this was not the way we intended this day to go.”
Rider plays at Saint Peter’s Sunday.
