      MAAC Quarter-Finals

      #1 Loyola College 5, #8 Rider University 0

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL--The Rider season came to an end Friday, losing to Loyola in the quarter-finals of the 2005 JetBlue Airways Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship tournament at the Walt Disney World’s Wide World of Sports complex.

Rider out-shot Loyola 7-2 in the second half.  “I think our seniors never gave up, and they held themselves up to a standard the rest of the team can look up to,” said Rider head coach Kevin Long.  “(Senior) Jen Marcella (Jackson) was again a force in the back, (senior) Aileen Ascolese (Holyoke, MA) played well on the flank, and (senior) Kelly Oates (Bayonne) came in off the bench and played almost the entire second half and raised our level of play.”

The top-seeded Greyhounds (15-4) scored just 1:15 into the game, and led 4-0 at half time.  “It was over early,” said Long.

Loyola scored the final goal with less than eight minutes remaining.  Ali Andrzejewski scored twice for the defending conference champions.

Loyola out-shot Rider (3-15-2) 12-9, including 10-2 in the first half.

Rider sophomore goalkeeper Kim Carter (Chantilly, Va.) made two saves.

The game between Rider and Loyola was a rematch of the 2004 MAAC Title Game, also won by Loyola.
