POUGHKEEPSIE, NY—The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Marist Sunday. “We played lackluster today,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager. “We seemed very flat.”

Rider junior goalkeeper Dan Riverso (Williamstown) made seven saves, including three on break-a-ways. “Riverso made some nice saves,” Fager said. “He kept us in the game.”

“This is a game we could have won, we just didn’t have enough intensity until the last 10 minutes of the game,” said Riverso.

Marist (4-7-1, 2-2 MAAC) took a 1-0 lead with 12 minutes left in the first half off of a corner kick, and scored the insurance goal seven minutes into the second half. “The first goal came off of a corner that was headed out, and I got screened on the shot,” Riverso said.  “The second goal was a cross that when I saved it, it hit the cross bar and came out, and was headed in from about six yards out.”

Marist out-shot Rider (2-8-3, 1-2-1 MAAC) 13-8. “At end it was played even, not a big difference,” said Fager.  “Both teams had chances, they had better chances and finished.”

Daniel Owens made five saves for the Red Foxes.

Rider hosts Fairfield Friday.  “We just have to win out, and hope one of the top four teams loses and we get in the playoffs,” said Riverso.
