Rider (7-10) won by the scores of 30-26, 30-13, 30-19, thanks to the behavior of Drummond, an Education major who minors in Psychology, both in the classroom and on the volleyball court.
“My role is to give the other hitters the opportunity to hit one on one, so I need to draw the attention to myself,” said Drummond. “I try to run something quick, so they have to come to me, but in my eight years of volleyball, I have learned to be a bit obnoxious on the court, to draw the opponent’s attention to me to free up the other hitters.”
“Jen created the momentum tonight,” said Rider assistant coach Lauren Niewender, who twice led the Broncs in blocking as a middle hitter.
Drummond compiled eight kills, but drew the attention of the Wagner blockers to allow senior Kristine Dormer (Bowie, Md/Elizabeth Seton) to have 12 kills, senior Stefanie Lombardo (New Castle, Pa/Laurel) have nine kills and 12 digs, and freshman Lacey Johnson (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) to have 11 kills. “That’s my role, to help the other hitters,” Drummond said.
Senior Embrey Minor (Davidsonville, Md/Bowie) had 27 assists for the Broncs.
