LAWRENCEVILLE-It’s all about the competition. The Broncs lost to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference power Marist Wednesday. "The only way you are going to get better is to play against better players," said Rider head coach Ed Torres.
Marist won three consecutive MAAC Championships before being dethroned by Manhattan, and has a roster this season made up of players from Paraguay, Venezuela, Switzerland, and South Africa. "They recruit very well with overseas players," Torres said. "Those players are more experienced, they’ve played in more tournaments. They are more match tough."
Marist didn’t even bring its number one player, MAAC Player of the Year Pedro Genovese. "We have to play every MAAC school, so it isn’t an option, but our guys like to play Marist," Torres said. "They know how good Marist is going in, but they like the challenge. They enjoy the competition, and are not afraid to play teams like Marist and Manhattan."
Rider plays at Saint Peter’s Saturday.
