Rider Athletes of the Month
Field Hockey’s Walker, Cross Country’s Smith
LAWRENCEVILLE—Stephanie Walker of the field hockey team, and John Smith of the cross country team, have been named the Rider University Athletes of the Month for all competition in September.
Walker, a sophomore from Lyman, ME (Massabesic), compiled seven goals and three assists for 16 points in 10 games in September, leading Rider to a 5-4 record. The Northeast Conference Player of the Week September 12, Walker leads the NEC in goals and points, and currently ranks 13th in the nation in both goals (9) and points (22).
Smith, a sophomore from Cliffwood Beach (Matawan), finished first for Rider in both meets Rider ran in September, and has now finished first among Broncs in every race since he has become a Bronc.
At the Bronc Invitational, Smith placed fourth among the 63 runners, covering the 5.0 mile course in 26:09. At Iona’s Meet of Champions, Smith placed 51st of the 297 overall competitors, covering the hilly five mile course in 26:19.8.
