Rider Finishes 7th at St. Bonaventure
OLEAN, NY—The Rider Golf Team cut 21 strokes off of its score and had the second best round of the day Monday at the 15-team Keenan Invitational, hosted by St. Bonaventure. “Today I was very proud of our golfers, the way they turned it around,” said Rider golf coach Chet Dalgewicz. “We played to our potential today.”
Rider shot a 288 on Monday to climb to seventh place after a 309 on Sunday, to finish with a total of 597. St. Bonaventure won the tournament with a 575.
“Moving from 14th to 7th made me proud of the way we responded,” said Dalgewicz. “Today was indicative of how good our team can be. Now we have to put together two days in a row like this. That's what we did last year but haven't yet this year.”
Sophomore Tyler Brewington (Orangeville, PA/Benton), who was the tournament medalist in 2004 with a two-day total of 140, shot a 68 on Monday, the best round of the day, on the par 70 Bartlett Golf Course for a two-day total of 143 to place 10th. “Tyler was outstanding today,” Dalgewicz said.
“I struggled yesterday,” said Brewington, “but I hit the ball today like I was during the summer, and it felt great. After winning this tournament last year I was very disappointed yesterday. Today I was out to prove that I am a better golfer than what I showed yesterday.”
Senior Jeff Palmer (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) shot a 73 on Monday, after leading the Broncs with a 75 on Sunday, for a total of 148 to place 25th among the 80 golfers. “Palmer had an outstanding tournament and all of the guys are happy for him,” said Dalgewicz.
Sophomore Dylan Maxey (Montrose, Pa./Montrose) had a 71 on Monday for a two-day total of 149 to place 33rd.
Senior Jonathan Kent (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) shot 78s both days for a total of 156, and sophomore Josh Krumholz (Reading, Pa./Gov. Mifflin) shot a 76 Monday after an 80 Sunday and also compiled a 156 to tie for 61st.
Rider competes at the Lehigh Invitational October 9-10.
